Music For Modern Dance Class
Normally, daily technique classes are "ephemeral,"
not recorded and not quite literally repeated ever again.
A situation arose, however, at Towson University where
it seemed that a recorded tape of some of what I typically played for class
would be useful for some of the teachers. I recorded at Michael Vecchione's living room
studio set-up, live to two-track, with no overdubbing, so that everything on the tape exactly
duplicates what I regularly play live by myself in class.
In the examples where you hear piano
AND drum AND vocal, that represents what I regularly provide in class, simply by propping the drum
against my knee and using the pedal to sustain chords as I drum - a sort of one-man-band effect.
These mp3 excerpts from that recording session
offer a taste of my typical classroom music for teachers such as Dana Martin and Nancy Wanich-Romita at Towson.
